I couldn't close the deal!

Sat, 2/29/20-Went to NYC for the Armory Leap Year Invitational, mainly an event for college-age athletes, although there were some high school, post-collegiate, and masters athletes there. I arrived at 9:40, with the meet starting at 10:00 and the 400 scheduled for 10:35. After confirming my pre-registration, I warmed up pretty immediately, feeling a little tired and unconditioned by the time I reached the end of my typical, pre-race 8-min mile. I stretched pretty well, but I didn't overdo static stretching. I declared and later checked in. I learned that I'd be in section 6 of 6, lane 5. I wasn't sure if this would be a uncontested race, thinking that perhaps I'd take it handily. There were two high school-age runners in the race, but I wasn't sure about their fitness. At any rate, I psyched myself out. Turns out this would a perfect race for me. Both of these runners, one in lane 6, the other in lane 4, ran times that are well within my reach. I let them get out and take the lead on me. I was flat. I knew I was in trouble when I saw 26/27 when I hit the 200! I was miffed, but I told myself to just try to maintain over the second 200 and perhaps still run a 55. This didn't happen. I couldn't close the deal! I wound up running 57.01, my slowest open time in quite some time. If you don't include the time my shoe came off at the Armory or when I was still injured, the last time I was, well, I don't know when!

ME: 27.269 (27.269)/57.009 (29.741)

The two who came in before me ran 55.92 and 56.37, well within reach for me. What's wrong with me?

Fri, 2/28/20-in Philadelphia for NAIS. Took off. Returned to campus just in time to compete in the student-faculty bball game. This was a real game! It was fun, but it required a fair bit of energy.

Thurs, 2/27/20-in Philadelphia for NAIS. Took off.

Wed, 2/26/20-Went to Hillsborough's track at 5:45AM for a short workout: 4 x 200 Speed 30 seconds/rest=3 minutes instead of...1 x 350 Speed fast/rest 15 minutes + 4 x 200 Speed 30 seconds/rest=5 minutes.
Tues, 2/25/20-Ran 2.5M in 20:30, then stretched, and lifted.

Mon, 2/24/20-Warmed up a mile, stretched, then did a treadmill workout.

I took to the treadmill for the workout today.

I chose a slower 600 first, just to test out the hamstring. I then went down to 500, after 7:30 rest.--To do the 500 in 65 seconds, I let machine go at 13.5 speed and hopped on at 13 sec/.03M. I ran until the time reached 1:35 sec and the distance hit .34M. As a result of the settings, I reached the 400m (.25M) mark at .28M with the time at 1:18. Starting at 13 sec/.03M, I was able to hit 65 sec at the 400m mark...and the 500m in 81/82.

For the 200s, I just ran 3 in 33. I let the machine go at 14.0 speed and hopped on at 14 sec/.04M. I ran until it reached 47 sec/.17M. This made for a 33 sec 200. I tried to relax and run with an erect posture.

I took 10 min, not 15, on the 500s, and 2:45 on the 200s.

Sun, 2/23/20-Left early for Ponte Vedra, Florida. Heads Network.
